The perfect hdmi switch for sonos playbar owners. . A hdmi switch that actually works. This is the 4th hdmi switch that i have tried with my home av setup and finally i have found one that ticks all the boxes.:))))my setup is as follows:- samsung led tv- sonos playbar- humax freesat box- playstation 4- amazon fire tv- blu ray playeri have all the av components connected to the hdmi switches 4 inputs. I then output the video via hdmi to the tv and the audio via optical cable to the sonos playbar. This switch handles all of this perfectly. It sends the correct type of audio from the source device to the playbar without messing with it so finally i can send true dd5. 1 from any of the devices to the playbar. With all the other switches i have tried they have never handled the audio properly and just sent a pcm 2.

This is a great piece of kit. It works flawlessly and does everything it says it does. It’s a bit more expensive than other hdmi switches i have tried, but it has two very important advantages over the cheaper ones:firstly: it has full and proper edid control over the audio stream you extract from the 4 source hdmi connections to send out via the optical toslink output. To explain: in my case, i had the problem that my sources (a nowtv box, panasonic blu-ray player and humax youview box) all have the ability to output high quality dolby digital 5. 1 sound, but my sound system only has one digital optical input and no hdmi inputs. I had been using the optical output from the tv to send to the sound system, but because the tv is pcm stereo only, the hdmi edid handshake between the sources and the tv meant that i could only get pcm stereo from this connection. I have tried a couple of other cheaper hdmi switches to get over this problem, but although they both claimed edid control, it was a false claim in both cases; you can specify the format of sound coming from the toslink output, but they still simply pass through the edid handshake from the tv to the sources, so i still could only get pcm stereo to my sound system, because this was dictated by the edid handshake of the tv, not the sources or the switch. It overwrites and overrides the edid handshake from the tv/monitor, so the sources will transmit the highest possible sound quality they are capable of delivering through to the optical socket of the switch, regardless of the capabilities of the tv’s own speaker system. So my problem was solved using this switch. If you are looking for an hdmi switch for no other reason that your tv/monitor doesn’t have enough hdmi inputs, then buy one of the cheaper ones – they work fine. But if your need is because your surround sound system doesn’t have enough digital inputs and your tv has no digital output or can only process stereo, then you’ll need this one. Secondly: unlike others, this switch is listed as a supported device for logitech harmony universal remote controls, so i have been able to program my remote to automatically switch between sources.
