Q Acoustics 2020i Bookshelf Speakers – Don’t hesitate to buy these speakers they are fantastic at the price

Superb, they are almost on a par with my quad 12l classics (they cost £500).

A few years ago i bought the q acoustics ‘home cinema’ package which included four 1010i wall mounted speakers, the 1000ci centre speaker and the 1000si sub woofer. Aside from the 1000si, which was a disaster (power supply blew three times and cost me more to repair it than it cost – finally replaced with a substantially better wharfdale spc12) i was very impressed with the wall mounted speakers. Slightly underpowered for the room they went in, but that was my fault, not the speakers. As a result, when i was looking for a pair of speakers to reside in a smaller ‘office’ room, i looked at the latest offering from q-a. Given my previous misjudgement on power rating, i decided to opt for the 2020i, and i can honestly that this pair of speakers is well worth the what hi-fi rating. The speakers are built to a high quality, with a nice ‘solid’ feel. I have them connected up to my favourite av amplifier, a yamaha dsp-ax630se (the only downside is that the speaker connectors don’t take banana’s) which has continued to outstrip more modern ‘equivalents’. As far as i am concerned, i didn’t have to wait for them to ‘bed in’. The beautiful ‘full’ sound was clear and precise and ably supported sound from blu-ray dvd, led tv and from mp3’s from my pc.

Fantastic sound especially the bass. For small speakers these are very powerful and extremely crystal clear. Bought them to go with sonos amp.

  • Fantastic sound!!
  • Reserving judgement on the bass
  • Worth every Penny

Aesthetically pleasing with high build quality. Sound very impressive which improves with use. Base response is not the same as a good floorstasnder but this is only noticeable on a head to head comparison. Nothing really compares at the price.

Q acoustics concept 20, 2020i 0r 2010i. I bought two pairs of the 2020i for the sides and rears and a set of 2010i for height speakers in a 7. I already own the concept 20 , which will be the fronts, and a couple of subwoofers. I didn’t fancy ceiling fitted speakers because i may have to experiment with positioning and that would have meant making big holes. I nearly went for three pairs of 20201 (only £20 difference from richer sounds) but decided that the extra depth of the cabinet could be a negative as i plan to mount the 2010i speakers on a sloping attic ceiling. As an experiment i swapped my concepts over with the 2010i to play some stereo music. Without being too negative, because they are about a quarter of the price, i have to say that the 2010i didn’t come close to the richer sound of the concepts. The treble was quite nice, if a little shrill at times, the mids were well put together, but the music wasn’t underpinned by much bass (i had switched my subs off). These speakers cry out for a subwoofer whereas the concepts can be used alone, although i do prefer to utilise a sub , which adds that extra dimension of bass that the concepts can’t produce and really lifts the music into a different place altogether. I then hooked up the 2020i (only £20 more expensive than the 2010i, costing £100 a pair). Now we were getting somewhere. The treble was all it should be, precise and detailed but now we had some nicely controlled bass in the mix which really brought the music alive where the 2010i had seemed quite thin and shallow.

I bought these after lots of research and have not been in any way dissapointed. Having narrowed it down to these or the monitor audio bx2’s, i went with these because i couldn’t hear enough of a difference to justify the £55 price increase for the bx2’s. Soundwise they’re excellent and they also look super on the soundstyle z2 stands that i was able to afford as a result of not going for the bx2’s. Can’t recomend highly enough. As an added bonus they look like they were meant to go with pro-ject debut carbon, which also has a matt finish.
